Here's an update.

I have been back to the gym eight times in December so far which means I am on the right track and each time I have looked forward to going and need no persuasion!

The first cycle of workouts I did half the sets and really low weights.
The second cycle I did the all the sets.
The third cycle I increased the silly weights.
The fourth cycle I will increase most of the other weights.

It's interesting to find that already some of the weights don't feel as heavy as they did a week ago.

From here I will start to modify my diet (after Christmas - not much point till then) and start to incorporate the other elements including stretching and Pilates. I will post charts periodically on here too.
